Box elder bugs are considered a nuisance when they cover homes and structures to
sun themselves, usually near their host trees. When temperatures drop, they have
been known to invade homes seeking warmth and will remain inactive until Spring. An
active heating unit will awaken the box elders, only to invade the home to search for
food and water. Aside from the foul odor they emit when squashed, and fecal matter
stains, the box elder is not likely to do much damage. In order to control the population
before they grow in numbers, contacting a box elder removal company is advisable.
Removing nearby box elder and maple trees is one strategy to create a long term solution to the box elders.
